6 days Southern india tour: temples, ashrams, holy mountains, modern cities....
We begin our journey in Chennai (capital of Tamil Nadu and India's 4th largest city), where we will ease our way into Indian life with local temple visits, shopping excursions and some downtime for recovery from the long travel journey. Next, we will travel south to visit the famous 8th century shore temples of Mahabalipuram- a World Heritage Site and one of the most photographed monuments in India. We will continue onwards to Pondicherry- a city with a distinctive Mediterranean feel, due to its history of 300-years of occupation by the French (ending in 1954). While in Pondicherry, we will visit the Aurobindo Ashram, which was founded by Sri Aurobindo in 1926 and transformed into an experimental international yoga residential community, built on harmonious utopian principles, in 1968. From Pondicherry, we will continue on to Tiruvannamalai- a town built around Arunchala, the sacred mountain where the Indian saint Ramana Maharishi lived and taught the self-inquiry method of enlightenment to his disciples. From Tiruvannamalai, we will journey onwards to Bangalore, where we will wind down and enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating authentic Kerala-style Ayurveda experience at AyurvedaGram.
